Romanian Pres Says Will Read Letters From Chamber Speaker After Referendum

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Monday said he did not have a chance yet to open the letters sent by Chamber Speaker Bogdan Olteanu, adding he will read them after November 26.

“Several letters from Bogdan Olteanu piled up. They are in their envelopes, exactly how they arrived and I will read them after November 26,” Basescu said in a press conference.

As of early October, Olteanu sent Basescu open letters daily, asking him to cease delaying the promulgation of the law introducing the uninominal voting system, for which the Government assumed responsibility in Parliament.

On Monday, Olteanu sent Basescu the thirteenth letter on the issue.

The national referendum on the introduction of the uninominal vote will take place on November 25.
