The beltway, which required a total investment of EUR113.6 million, will help alleviate traffic congestion in Pitesti municipality and will reduce pollution in the city, Tariceanu said.

He pointed out the “paternity” of the project is rather insignificant reported to the value the beltway has for the citizens.

Mircea Geoana, head of opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, said Monday the beltway would have been completed a year and a half ago had he been premier.

Last week, liberals and social democrats in Arges County accused each other of seeking to take credit over Pitesti beltway.
