Basescu attended the launch of the Tismaneanu report, which condemns the deeds of the former communist government. The president wished to explain why he decided to form a presidential commission that drew up a document to condemn the years of communism.
Basescu said the Romanian state needed to show people that it is not the successor of the communist era.
Ion Iliescu, the first post-communist president of the Romanian state, attended on the other hand the launch of a book written by Al Gore, former candidate at the presidency of the United States of America.
“It is not irony that we met here. It is only an accident,” Basescu concluded.
