Romanian Democrats, Liberal Democrats Merge

The leader of the Romanian Democratic Party, Emil Boc, and the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, Theodor Stolojan, announced Monday that their two parties would combine, forming the Democratic Liberal Party.

The new party will be affiliated to the European Popular Party and it will maintain within it the popular current as well as the liberal one.
The leadership structure will be supplied by the democrats, through acting president Emil Boc, and two vice-presidents, Theodor Stolojan and democrat vice-president Vasile Blaga, democrat sources told MEDIAFAX.
The leadership structures of the two parties will be called for meeting Wednesday, to see the project for the new party.

The two parties will each call Congress in January 2008.
