Former social democrat lawmaker Dan Iosif was buried with military honors in Bucharest on Saturday.

His coffin was carried by revolutionaries. The funeral ceremony was attended by hundreds of people, mostly revolutionaries.
 
Former president Ion Iliescu paid his last respects, saying he is parting with a hearty man who meant a lot in Romania’s national history.
 
“Dan Iosif remains an emblem of the Romanian revolution: an everyman, full of virtue, courage, verticality, he believed in an ideal with all his being,” Iliescu said.
 
Iosif, 57, member of leftist opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, died Wednesday morning after struggling for several years with lung cancer.
 
He actively participated in the Romanian Revolution of December 1989 which brought about the fall of the communist regime and he was part of the first political structures set up after 1990.
 
Between 1992 and 1996, Iosif was adviser to former president Iliescu.
