The event was confirmed by Romanian Defense Ministry spokesperson Oliver Anghel, who told MEDIAFAX that the soldier was “caught by an electric ac while unloading military technique” in the station.

He added that the soldier was on top of the vehicle when the tragic incident happened and that first responders could not resuscitate him.

The soldier, 33-year old Warrant Officer Alexandru Orosz, was a mechanic for the anti-airforce structure within the Army’s 3rd Potaissa Defense Battalion stationed in Turda, Cluj county, and also took part in missions in Afghanistan.

Romania’s Defense Ministry later announced that a commission of 4th Gemina Infrantry Division will investigate the causes of the accident, with Cluj Military Tribunal prosecutors already informed on the situation.

Alba Iulia, the city where the union between the Kingdom of Romania and Transylvania was agreed on December 1, 1918, is set to hold a grand military parade to mark the event’s centennial.
