“At the invitation of Dacian Ciolos, I have joined PLUS. As I announced four months ago, I will not run in the MEP elections. I will support PLUS candidates in the May 26 elections and I invite everyone who trusts me to do the same,” said the MEP.

Preda pointed out that his addition gives the recently formed group the status of a parliamentary party, which will allow it to have its own delegates in voting sections.

The MEP was previously a member of the now defunct PDL party, and won his term running for the opposition party PMP in 2014. However, the group decided later that year, in an unanimous vote, to exclude him from the party, under accusations of joining the group only to ensure an MEP term and damaging the party’s image.

MEP elections are set to take place on May 26 in Romania, with PLUS to run in its first elections since its inception. Party leader Dacian Ciolos will run for an MEP term.
