Flood Warnings Issued for 22 Counties

Romanian hydrologists issued on Monday afternoon flood warnings of various severity for twenty-two Romanian counties, in effect until Tuesday.

A code orange flood warning was issued starting with Monday, 18.00 local time and until Tuesday, 16.00 for several rivers in the counties of Maramures, Satu Mare, Bistrita Nasaud, Cluj, Salaj and Mures, in northern and northwestern Romania.

A separate code yellow warning will be in effect until midnight on Tuesday for rivers in Maramures, Satu Mare, Bistrita-Nasaud, Cluj, Salaj, Bihor, Arad, Hunedoara, Harghita, Mures, Brasov, Sibiu, Alba, Timis, Caras Severin, Gorj, Covasna, Arges, Valcea, Neamt, Bacau and Suceava counties.

The affected areas will see significant spillages on mountainsides, torrents and creeks, as well as flash floods on smaller rivers which can turn into local flooding. Some of the larger rivers in the aforementioned counties will also register water flows above safety levels.

The warnings also coincide with new storm and torrential rain warnings issued almost nationwide until Tuesday.
