The decision was made following a hearing on Tuesday. During the hearing, Dragnea stated that he is “completely innocent” and has been serving an unlawful prison sentence.

Liviu Dragnea is currently serving a sentence of three and a half years in prison, having been incarcerated on May 27, 2019. The former PSD leader was charged with instigating abuse of office, in a case regarding the fictitious hiring of party members at a state agency.

The former Lower Chamber chairman initiated several exceptional appeals against judiciary procedure in the case after his case appeal maintained the prison sentence, including the appeal in cassation.
