New Agriculture Census In Romania Between Dec ‘10-Jan ‘11

Romania is to carry out a new general agriculture census between December 2, 2010 and January 31, 2011, which will update the data regarding the existent land surfaces, the number of animals, the irrigation systems as well as the number of farmers.

According to the norms of the European Union, each member state needs to carry out an agriculture census once every ten years.

The agriculture census registers all agriculture units, irrespective of the property type and its organization.

The resulting information will allow Romanian authorities to draw up new regulations in governmental policies in the field of rural development.

A commission led by the minister of agriculture will coordinate the census.

The Ministry of Agriculture and the National Statistics Institute will hire additional personnel to collect, process and publish the data of the agriculture census.
