"I will not accept the appointment of a justice minister whose professional and moral career is not spotless. There are many who come and say «You too….». I am elected, with qualities and flaws, but a justice minister is not and I will not accept to sign like a notary public in any conditions and with anyone," Basescu said, explaining why he has delayed the appointment of a new justice minister.
According to the president, the Constitution states that the prime minister proposes a minister, and the president decides.
"I assure you I will stand by the idea that the minister of justice must be a good specialist that you accept and whose record is spotless at least in terms of evidence, because it’s not gossip we lack," Basescu said.
He added he did not make the above statements to start a dialogue with other state institutions, but because the justice minister is a member in the High Council of Magistrates.
