Moldovan Official Alleges Romanian Servants Offer Moldovans Illegal Citizenship

The Moldovan deputy interior minister Valentin Zubic on Tuesday accused two public servants with the Romanian justice ministry of alleged illegal help offered to Moldovan national in obtaining Romanian citizenship.

Zubic said the two Romanian officials are part of a larger group which includes Moldovan nationals, mentioning one of the Moldovans was caught red handed in Chisinau.

Zubic declined to offer any names, but mentioned the Moldovan authorities have been monitoring the group for seven months and they established the group members charged the Moldovans with EUR150-EUR300 to speed up proceedings in gaining Romanian citizenship.

The group helped 135 Moldovan to regain Romanian citizenship, while another 565 people managed to apply for citizenship “thanks to the two servants with the Romanian Ministry of Justice,” Zubic said.

He said the Moldovan authorities sent “proper documents” to their Romanian counterparts so that the latter take all “necessary measures.”
