„Up to now, 9 gendarmes have been heard as injured persons and 4 as witnesses. I mention that four other gendarmes, victims of the assaults, have been identified and are currently hospitalized and will be heard,” said Chief Commissioner Octavian Dan, spokesman for the Bucharest Police.

In addition, seven people who were pulled out by gendarmes from the crowd at the protest were taken to police headquarters for questioning.

The police officers have drawn up several criminal cases for destruction, disturbing public order and peace, outrage, and instigation.

„I can assure you that complex activities are currently underway to identify and trace all those involved and hold them accountable. At this moment, all activities are ongoing in order to administer the evidentiary material. Investigations are being continued under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office,” said Chief Commissioner Octavian Dan.

The police are warning citizens to get information only from official sources, as a video circulating on social networks has been falsely presented as footage from Sunday night.

„A person, who is evading prosecution and is wanted, posted a video on social media of an intervention by fellow gendarmes and claimed it was from last night. In fact, that video clip was taken three years ago and shows an intervention by gendarmes to restore public order after violence between two football fans. We call on citizens to get information only from official sources. In light of the person’s calls for violent demonstrations, the police have opened a criminal case for public instigation,” said the spokesperson.
