French Court Clears Tax Evader Sever Muresan From Tax Payments

The Court of Appeals in Lyon, France, cleared Romanian-French citizen Sever Muresan from paying taxes for the years 1994 and 1995 to the French state, repealing the decision of the Dijon Court, and ruled that Muresan is to receive EUR4,000.

"On December 31, 2007, in the sentence no. 03LYO1292, 03LYO01336 of the Lyon Court of Appeals, the sentence no. 021029 of the Dijon Court on the taxation of Andrei Sever Muresan for the years 1994 and 1995 was cancelled," Muresan’s lawyers said in a press release.
 
In a decision of November 20, 2007, the national director of the control service of fiscal statements within the French Ministry of Economy and Finance reduced Muresan’s dues by EUR675,847.
 
“The French state is to pay Muresan EUR4,000,” the lawyers said.
 
Muresan was arrested for tax evasion in France. In March 2004, Muresan was convicted to 18 months in jail in France.
