A week ago, the court ended the trial in which Cozma sued Romania for his imprisonment after the pardoning order signed by president at that time Ion Iliescu was repealed.

The former miners’ leader asked for EUR4 million in damages for having been imprisoned illegally for 178 days.

The Ministry of Finance agreed to pay Cozma damages, but on no account EUR4 million, which it considered too large a sum.

Mid-April 2007, the Bucharest Court ruled in favor of Cozma and obliged the state to pay him EUR10,000 in damages, decision which he appealed.
