The Ministry of Transportation offered the railroad employees a two-trance 10% wage increase but the unionists declined the offer, said Barna Tanczos, secretary of state with transportation ministry.

"The unionists declined what we find to be a fair offer," the ministry official said.

He said the unionists also turned down a proposition to modify the hour interval for the warning strike to limit the impact on railroad traffic.
