Patriciu, 57, was included in the ranking after he sold the majority stake of Dutch-registered oil group Rompetrol to Kazakhstan’s state-owned energy company KazMunaiGas for an estimated $2.7 billion.
Apart from Patriciu, Romanian Ion Tiriac, 68, secured the 962nd spot with an estimated $1.2 billion.
The Forbes ranking includes 1,062 people worldwide with fortunes exceeding $1 billion.
In the Top 300 richest Romanians, compiled by Romanian business weekly Capital end November 2007, Patriciu was on the top spot with an estimated $3.1-3.3 billion followed by Gigi Becali ($2.8-3 billion) and Ion Tiriac with an estimated $2.2-2.4 billion.
