Romania Invested 0.49% Of GDP In R&D In ‘08

Romania invested 0.49% of its gross domestic product in research and development in 2006, ranking second to last in Europe, according to a press release issued by Eurostat, which places Cyprus last, with 0.42% of the GDP invested in R&D.

According to the quoted source, the data was registered in 2006, when the EU states spent, on R&D, and average 1.84% of the GDP, the numbers varying between some 0.42%, in Cyprus (provisional value), and 3.82% in Sweden.

According to Eurostat, aside from Sweden, Finland and Germany are topping the chart of states that invest in R&D, with 3.45%, and 2.51% respectively.

Last ranked are, aside from Cyprus and Romania, Bulgaria – which invests 0.48 % ofn the GDP in R&D – and Slovakia (0.49% of the GDP).
