Bucharest’s Road Public Transport, Subway Cos To Merge

Bucharest’s road public transport company RATB and subway company Metrorex will merge forming one institution called the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, according to a draft act drawn up by the Transports Ministry.

Transports minister Ludovic Orban on Thursday said the ministry finished the draft setting up the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and that the document will be sent to receive the government’s approval.

The authority will be subordinated to the government and will be in charge of managing traffic problems as well as projects aiming to develop both Metrorex and RATB.
 
The Authority will be financed from the state budget, its own sources as well as foreign loans.
 
A council of 11 members from the Transports Ministry, the Bucharest mayoralty, local and county authorities, Ministry of Economy and Finance and Ministry of Interior will be in charge of managing the new Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
