The institute said output in the energy and manufacturing sectors grew 9.2% and 6.1% on the year in the first three months of the year, respectively. Output in the mining sector dropped 3.9% in the same period.
In March alone, the country’s industrial output grew 6.7% on the month and 2.9% on the year on growth in all three main sectors.
On the year, output in the energy and manufacturing sectors rose 6% and 3% in March, respectively, while growth in the mining sector stood at a modest 0.4% in the same period, the institute said.
On the month in March, output in the mining and manufacturing sectors grew 16.6% and 6.6%, respectively. Energy output fell 2.9% on the month.
Industrial output data for March are preliminary, the institute said.
In 2007, Romania’s industrial output grew 5.4% on the year led by manufacturing growth and is expected to grow 5.2% in 2008, according to official estimates.
