"The investigation as open following the complaint submitted by (chemical fertilizer maker) Amonil Slobozia signaling a potential breach of competition rules in the sale and purchase of natural gas between Romgaz and Azomures," the competition watchdog said.
Contacted by MEDIAFAX, Romgaz officials said they received no notice regarding the investigation.
"Romgaz hasn’t received any notification from the Competition Council or Amonil Slobozia regarding a potential breach of the competition law,” Romgaz officials said.
State-owned Romgaz is the country’s largest natural gas producer, covering 41% of the domestic market demand. The company produced over 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas last year.
Chemical fertilizer maker Azomures was privatized in 1998 and is currently 56% owned by Transworld Fertilizers Holding, registered in Luxemburg.
