In January-July period, the manufacturing industry was up 6.4% on the year, while the electric power, gas and water industry rose by 6.5%. The industrial output was dragged down by the mining industry which fell 0.8% on the year.
In July alone, the industrial output fell 1.4% on the month, due mainly to a 2.8% fall in the manufacturing industry. However, the mining industry was up 4.3% on the month in July while the electric power, gas and water rose by 14.3%.
On the year in July, the country’s industrial output increased by 5.1%, supported by all three industrial sectors. The mining industry was up 8.4% on the year, the manufacturing output rose 4.8% while the electric power, natural gas and water sector was up 4.2%.
In 2007, Romania’s industrial output grew 5.4% on the year led by manufacturing growth and is expected to grow 5.2% in 2008, according to official estimates.
