"Since the beginning of the year, Hungary has cashed over EUR20 million from fines applied to Romanian drivers and transporters and the Romanian Government, and particularly Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, is fully aware of this situation," FORT president Augustin Hagiu said Wednesday.

Hagiu said Hungary applies the highest fines in Europe, stressing the Hungarian control bodies simply abuse their authority when they fine Romanian drivers and transporters or abusively seize their commercial vehicles.

Romanian unions in the transport sector said they urged the government and competent authorities to take the necessary measures in this respect, but to no avail.
