The Romanian government decided Tuesday to postpone applying the law raising teachers’ wages by 50% until April 1, 2009.
Labor minister Mariana Campeanu said Monday after a meeting with unionists that the document to include principles of the public sector wage law would be drafted next week and will be submitted to parliament mid-next year.
Last week, Romanian President Traian Basescu passed a law increasing teachers’ wages by 50%, despite the government’s warning that the move would jeopardize economic stability.
