The central bank said foreign-exchange inflows were EUR4.402 billion in October, while outflows totaled EUR3.105 billion.

Since the foreign reserves consist of assets denominated in euro, US Dollars and other currencies, the important changes of the exchange rates of these currencies in the international markets have influenced both the inflows and the outflows, the central bank said in the statement.

In addition to its foreign-exchange reserves, the central bank reported holdings of 103.7 metric tons of gold, with a total market value of EUR1.907 billion.

At October 31, the international reserves of Romania (foreign currencies and gold) stood at EUR29.226 billion, compared to EUR28.102 billion at September 30.

In November 2008, payments due on public and publicly guaranteed external debt amount to EUR57 million, the central bank also said.
