The national blood donation program "A chance for life" managed to bring in 8,802 donors in its five months of activity, which brought a 7.6% increase in blood reserves at participant centers.

Two sessions of blood collection in 15 cities were organized since May – in Arad, Bucharest, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Constanta, Iasi, Petrosani, Ploiesti,  Resita, Targu Jiu, Targu-Mures, Timisoara and Sibiu, with the total quantity of donated blood reaching 3,960. This blood can save 20,000 lives.

The program will be widened to another ten cities, namely Alexandria, Braila, Deva, Galati, Pitesti, Oradea, Targoviste, Piatra Neamt, Slobozia and Sfantu Gheorghe.
During the second blood collection session, the "Motivation and behavior of the blood donor" survey was conducted on 600 people aged 18 to 26, who donated blood within the program.

"The survey was aimed at evaluating the motivation young people have to donate blood […] Thus most youths (74%) are willing to continue donating, regardless of the material compensations connected to the donation of blood. As for the motivation, 37% of donors do so out of selflessness, while 45% are interested in the free blood tests performed after the donation," said a press release issued Tuesday by the initiator of the program.

The third collection session will unfold between December 8 and December 12, in 25 Romanian cities.

The program was initiated by the React Association and Vodafone Romania, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Hematology and the National Union of Students in Romania.
