Romanians, Bulgarians Without Work Permits Must Leave The Netherlands

Unemployed Romanians and Bulgarians in the Netherlands, as well as citizens of countries that are not member states of the European Union, will have to leave the Netherlands if they lose their job, Sofia Echo daily reported citing the local press.

The parliamentary majority in the Netherlands Tuesday asked the Cabinet to adopt legal procedures in the matter. Romanian and Bulgarian citizens need to have work permits to be allowed to work in the Netherlands.

The Dutch Parliament decided end November to keep the country’s labor market closed to Romanians and Bulgarians until the end of 2011.

Moreover, the Dutch Parliaments said it wants to limit the rights of Romanian and Bulgarian workers with regard to social assistance.

Dutch Christian-democrats and conservatives said the duration of the employment period of a person should be the decisive element when granting that person the right to get unemployment aid, Reformatorish Dagblad said.
