The minister added he also contacted the Ukrainian party, and expects a reply from Moscow by Thursday.

According to Videanu, Romania will be able to get through the winter without facing fuel supply problems.

Videanu called state of emergency in the energy system Wednesday, which offers the possibility of direct negotiation to acquire fuel for the safety of supplying.

All Russian gas supplies to Romania were halted Wednesday morning, after deliveries were cut at Mediesu Aurit gas import station at around GMT0700. Gas supplies via the other gas import station, Isaccea, were cut Tuesday morning.
