Romanian Carmaker Dacia Keeps Prices, Makes Offer For Clients Within Car Park Renewal Program

Romanian carmaker Dacia, the local unit of France’s Renault, keeps vehicle prices unchanged but will present a commercial offer for clients buying Dacia cars within the country’s car park renewal program, once authorities launch it.

"Dacia keeps prices unchanged for its vehicles, which continue to be the most accessible on the Romanian market. The price of the most affordable Logan, of EUR6,400, has remained unchanged since September 2006. Dacia committed as of Jan 14 to formulate a commercial offer of its own, addressing only clients that benefit from the car park renewal program, as soon as it is launched,” Dacia said in a press release Thursday.
 
The carmaker released the statement after company vice-president Constantin Stroe said Wednesday that Dacia was considering lowering vehicle prices, out of its profit margin, to help clients alongside scrap bonuses they receive from the government for their old cars within the country’s car park renewal program.
 
Stroe gave the example of a Logan model that costs EUR10,000 de euro and said Dacia’s offer and the scrap bonus granted by the state (set at about EUR4,000 this year – e.n.) could translate into an advantage of EUR1,700-2,000 for clients.
 
Starting from his statement, part of the Romanian media reported that Dacia could lower its pieces for vehicles by up to EUR2,000.
 
Dacia is confronted with an unprecedented decline in sales as consumers are on stand-by because of uncertainties over the country’s car tax, massive used car imports, more expensive loans and harder access to financing, as well as the overall recession of worldwide auto markets.
 
Dacia’s orders for January this year decreased four times compared to January 2007, to 50 units per day from 200 units per day, the automaker said.
