According to the press release, signed by general manager Dobra Laszlo, Secuiana started collective layoff procedures because of the company’s “serious economic difficulties".

The release said the company’s financial problems are caused by drastic decline in orders from its main foreign client and shrinking demand on the domestic market.

The sharp depreciation of the Romanian leu against the euro also affects the country negatively, as it no longer has demand for export and all direct and indirect costs for domestic orders are calculated in euro.

"Not being able to cover the entire production capacity with profitable orders, SC Secuiana S.A. is forced to reduce production by about 30% and cut staff by about 20%,” the release read.
The company will fire about 160 employees out of a total 774.

The textile company is part of Secuiana group, along textile makers Seconf – Covasna and S’mode and transport company Secuiana Trans.
