Police sketches of the two Romanian suspects, made according to the victim’s descriptions, have been published. Police claim they have evidence, including DNA collected at the scene of the rape, as well as witness accounts.
The crime took place in Rome’s Caffarella Park. It is the latest in a series of rapes, allegedly perpetrated by Romanian immigrants, to the indignation of many Italians.
About 100 police officers, soldiers, park rangers and firefighters intend to close down almost 80 illegal camps in Castelfusano forest, located between Rome and the nearby Ostia, by next week.
Police are also searching Roma camps along the coast of the Lazio region, between Ostia and the northern port Civitavecchia. Searches have been carried out in the Roma camps of Ladispoli, Acilia, Dragona and other towns in the vicinity of Rome.
