The head of state also highlighted, during the debates held at the presidential palace, that the Romanian authorities must do their utmost to achieve this goal.
Basescu also said the four benchmarks signaled in the EC’s report on Romania’s justice system, made public last week, must become top priority for all institutions involved in the reforming process of the justice system.
Debates were attended by Senate speaker Mircea Geoana, the Chamber of Deputies head, Roberta Anastase, interior minister Dan Nica, justice minister Catalin Predoiu, the head of the Constitutional Court, Ioan Vida, the head of the High Council of Magistrates, Virgil Andreies, the vice-president of the High Council of Magistrates, Dimitrie Bogdan Licu, the head of the High Court of Justice, Nicolae Popa, prosecutor general Laura Codruta Kovesi, the chief prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Department, Daniel Morar, the head of the National Integrity Agency, Catalin Macovei, tourism minister Elena Udrea, transport minister Radu Berceanu, the minister for the relation with Parliament, Victor Ponta, economy minister Adrian Videanu, as well as the heads of the legal committees within the Chamber of Deputies and Senate, namely Daniel Buda and Toni Grebla, respectively.
