Romanian Minister Strives To Lower Prices In Tourism Sector

Romanian hotel owners refuse to lower prices, saying they still rejoice plenty of tourists despite high prices, tourism minister Elena Udrea said Thursday at the 2009 International Tourism Bourse in Milan, Italy.

"While I was striving to get hotel owners to lower prices, they gave me an unexpected answer. They said there are plenty of tourists despite high prices, therefore, they afford not to lower prices," said Udrea.

She added, however, that the economic crisis might determine Romanian hotel owners to lower prices and make them more “appealing.”

Udrea also said rich tourists in Romania mainly back the local tourism market.

"They are not at all interested in lowering prices. As long as we have tourists willing to pay current prices, we cannot make hotel owners lower prices," said the minister.
