DNA evidence gathered from the two Romanians charged with the rape – Karol Racz (36) and Alexandru Loyos Isztoika (19) – do not match the evidence collected from the victim, confirms Il Messaggero, revealing that a third Romanian citizen is being charged, identified by Romanian authorities due to his criminal record.
However, the new suspect claims that at the time of the rape, February 14, he was in Switzerland.
Neither the Italian, nor Romanian authorities have yet revealed the suspect’s identity; especially as the DNA tests are not yet complete.
This new twist in the investigation could lead to the release of the two Romanian suspects who are currently in pre-emptive custody. Prosecutors say that Isztoika and Racz could be innocent and that the real perpetrators might still be on the loose.
