However, Geoana said there is no official data on potential talks with the IMF and voiced his concerned about Romania “being pushed” toward an agreement with the financial body.
Geoana said the government should first come with coherent anti-crisis measures and then consider a foreign loan.
“I believe we have to adopt an anti-crisis package and a new Tax Code and then we should see if we need an agreement with the IMF. I have reserves, not with regard to the relationship with the IMF, but to the idea that we require external financing. I have again the feeling that we are pushed or that we rush in just like in the 90s to an arrangement which obviously has constrictive elements. Let us make our own plan and our own calculation,” Geoana said.
