“We will resume talks with TUI representatives, who will come to Romania at the end of April to discuss with seaside operators. It is very important that we are included in their catalogues,” Udrea said at the International Tourism Fair in Berlin.

Romanian Tourism Ministry plans to resume its partnership with Germany’s TUI to attract foreign tourists, three years after TUI decided to withdraw from the Romanian market.

According to a document signed by Udrea and obtained by MEDIAFAX, the authorities in Bucharest initiated informal talks with TUI official Tim Grosse in light of resuming collaboration.

In 2006, TUI gave up its operations in Romania and removed Romanian tour destinations from its catalogues, discontent with the accommodation conditions in the country, the high prices charged by hotel owners, as well as with the noise and unclean streets.

The Romanian authorities have tried to resume cooperation with TUI last year as well, without any result.

In October 2008, Detlef Hohne, director with TUI’s division for Morocco, Bulgaria and Romania, said the Romanian officials are not aware of the country’s strong tourist attractions and that it will take them several years to fix the problems in the tourism industry.
