"Any pensioner, in any system, who has a pension below the level of the gross average wage on economy, can cumulate the pension with the salary from the state. Exceptions from this ceiling apply to those who were appointed, in accordance with the Constitution, by the President or by the Parliament, in state positions, namely people appointed by the president to the Constitutional Court or those appointed by the Parliament as secretary generals," Seitan told MEDIAFAX.

He added the cumulating ban will be mostly valid for people retired based on special laws, such as army, diplomacy or police staff.

Earlier this week, Romanian prime minister Emil Boc said the cumulation of pensions and wages in the public sector will only be allowed for people with pensions up to RON1,500, the equivalent of an average gross wage.

Moreover, Boc stressed that people whose pensions exceed this ceiling will not benefit from cumulated pension and wage.

Boc also said the proposal will be up for public debate and subsequently sent to Parliament for approval, adding this measure will not affect low-income pensioners, among whom, social services providers, teachers and doctors.
