Romania Pres Calls For Partnership Btw Secret Service, Police To Crack Down On Crime

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Thursday urged the country’s Intelligence Service, or SRI, at its 2008 activity report meeting, to team up with the country’s police force and provide investigators with thorough information, which is vital in the fight against local crimes.

"I urged SRI to keep close watch on local crimes. It is obvious that the police are mainly involved in such cases, yet, I urged SRI to partner up with the police and provide thorough and useful information in the fight against swindlers," Basescu said.

According to Basescu, the collaboration between the two institutions  consisted only of “exchange of information.”

"To prevent and fight criminal groups, dubbed “clans” by the media, I urged SRI to work with the police, as much as possible, on collecting information needed to fight crimes," Basescu concluded his speech.
