Romanian tourists accounted for 80.4% of the total, while foreign tourists represented 19.6% in February, similar with the same period a year before.
The number of foreign tourists that entered Romania in February was 21.2% lower compared with February 2008, INS release reads.
Most of foreign visitors, representing 95.7%, come from European countries, while 64.2% come from EU member states. Hungary accounts for the highest number of tourists who entered Romania, with 39.3%, Bulgaria for 20.6%, Italy, 8.5%, Germany, 7.7%.
The number of Romanian tourists traveling abroad in February was down 10.4% compared with the same month a year before.
In the first two months of the year, the number of tourists accommodated in Romania was 19.8% lower compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.
Most of the tourists, or 54.8%, were accommodated in the capital city Bucharest and major cities in Romania in the first two months of 2008, 18.1% chose the mountain resorts, while Danube Delta accounted for the lowest number of lodged tourists, with 0.6%.
