Romanian Government To Suspend Filling Of Vacancies In Public Institutions

The Romanian Government will suspend the filling of vacancies in public institutions or authorities through contest and will prohibit the purchase of new cars, furniture and office equipment, in an effort to cut budget spending, ministry sources told MEDIAFAX.

“Vacancies which have already received approval to hold contests and for which candidates have already registered are allowed to be filled according to law,” sources said citing a new draft emergency ordinance.

As an exception, and only with good reason, ministers will be able to approve the filling of a maximum 15% of the number of vacancies after the ordinance comes into force, if this stays within the limits of staff expenses approved in the budget.

As regards automobiles and furniture, they will only be provided through redistribution within the same institution or public authority.

Newly created bodies will be exempt from this law, but only during their first year and provided they are not the result of the restructuring of older bodies.
