The two parties will discuss the situation in the railway sector and the measures included in the company’s restructuring plan, considering that unionists disagree with sacking over 12,000 people.
Union leader Gheorghe Popa said the two parties would carefully analyze the possibility of pensioning off certain employees, because this measure could seriously affect certain railway units. Popa referred to cases in which all employees of a certain railway unit meet the retirement conditions and thus, they should all be pensioned off. He stressed that in such cases, the respective unit would have to be closed down.
Late March this year, unionists said the employees in the railway sector would take to the streets and protest against recent measures included in the company’s restructuring plan, which target to lay off 12,000 people.
The program targeting reorganization measures in the railway sector consists in reducing staff by 12,139 people, namely 5,949 at freight company CFR Marfa and its branches, 2,545 at passenger company CFR Calatori and its branches, 3,536 at railway company CFR SA and its branches, 109 at the railway assets management company, railway tourism company, Romanian Railway Authority, as well as the National Railway Center for Qualification and Training.
