The ministry said violence against state institutions is unacceptable, but emphasized the importance of respecting the inalienable right of assembly of peaceful demonstrators.

Earlier Tuesday, Solana expressed concern about election-related unrest in Moldova and urged all sides in the ex-Soviet state to refrain from violence, AFP reported.

Thousands of protesters stormed the parliament and presidential buildings in Chisinau on Tuesday, denouncing the victory of the Communist party at the elections held April 6.

Tens of people, both police and civilian, were injured during clashes.
