Boc said he considers the Moldovan accusations as an attempt at provocation, but that measures similar to those introduced by Moldova will not be taken by Romania, specifically there will be no reprisals on the staff of the Moldovan embassy and travel visas for Moldovan citizens will not be instituted.
“Romania has always supported the independence, self-determination and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and will continue to have a European approach in relations with its neighbor, despite the anti-Romanian policy of the Communist authorities in Chisinau. Also, Romania will continue to support Moldova’s coming closer to the European Union, including programs for young people who wish to study in Romania and by taking part in other European programs destined for the citizens of this country,” Boc added.
A similar point of view was expressed by the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin announced earlier, in a meeting with civil society representatives, that the Romanian ambassador to Moldova has been declared persona non grata. He also announced the introduction of visas for Romanian citizens wishing to travel to Moldova.
