Romania’s Feb Retail Sales Dn 7.9% On Yr

The retail sales of goods and fuel fell by 15.2% on the year in February, while the in food, drink and tobacco sales were boosted by 0.7%, the institute said.

In February, the retail sales, excluding vehicles and motorcycles, fell by 4.4% compared with January. The wholesale and retail sales, the maintenance and repairing works of vehicles and motorbikes were down 7.3% on the month in February.

In the first two months of 2009, the retail sales, excluding vehicles and motorcycles, were down 6.1% on the year, on the back of a 13.1% decrease in fuel and 3.6% fall in goods. However, the food, drink and tobacco sales grew by 2.9% in January-February 2009 period.

Romania’s wholesale and retail sales, the maintenance and repairing works of vehicles and motorbikes, the retail sales of auto fuels were down 34.9% on the year in February, mainly due to the 49.1% fall in the vehicle sales.
