Italian police said a Romanian housemaid had come to the house where she worked together with four other Romanian nationals, in order to steal jewelry and money.
The owners of the house in the village of San Panfilo D’Orce have been put up in tents provided by the authorities, following the 5.8 degrees earthquake Monday morning.
The four Romanians took advantage of the fact the house was empty, attempting to rob it. Their vehicle was found to contain many goods which may have been stolen.
An earthquake of 6.3 moment magnitude occurred in the central Italian region of Abruzzo on April 6, 2009. It was followed by dozens of aftershocks, the strongest measuring 5.3 magnitude. The earthquakes and its aftershocks caused damage to thousands of buildings in the medieval city of L’Aquila and the death of around 300 people.
