Romania Posted 3rd Highest March Annual Infl In EU – Eurostat

Romania reported in March the third highest annual inflation in the EU, with an annual rate of 6.7%, more than five times higher than the EU average of 1.3%, according to second estimates from Eurostat, EU's Statistical Office.

EU annual inflation was 1.3% in March 2009, down from 1.8% in February, while the euro-area annual rate was at 0.6% in March, half of February’s 1.2%.

In March, the lowest annual rates were recorded in Ireland, of -0.7%, Portugal, of -0.6% and Luxembourg, of -0.3%

Latvia, with an annual inflation of 7.9%, and Lithuania, with 7.4%, surpassed Romania as regards the March annual consumer price index growth.

On monthly basis, Romania’s inflation rose 0.5%, above the EU average of 0.3% and above 0.4% in the euro-zone.
