Romanian Theater Festival Organizers Call On Govt To Rediscuss Culture Ministry Budget

"The public statement made by the culture minister of April 14 regarding the ministry’s 2009 budget raises concerns across the entire cultural sector and could generate protests similar to those in the education sector," the letter read.

"This budget indicates the most affected segment is that of cultural projects, as the budgets of all cultural events on the ministry’s national priority list were drastically cut," the letter added.

The signatories, including numerous Romanian artists and theaters critics, urged the government to rediscuss the Culture Ministry’s budget in a public meeting, as the National Theater Festival, which has seen 18 annual editions so far, is in danger of being canceled this year.
