Romania’s rudimentary road infrastructure in some tourist regions may very well work in favor of ecotourism development, Tourism Minister Elena Udrea said Thursday.

“The rudimentary stage of infrastructure could be an advantage. We can start from this stage, somewhat elementary, and create a tourist area good for ecotourism,” Udrea told a press conference.

Udrea was referring to a 40-kilometer road, which is rather difficult to access, between the center south locality of Moroeni and the Pestera (cave) Hotel in Padina-Pestera region.

She denounced the lack of interest in ecotourism shown by Romanian authorities over the past 20 years and said the ministry she is running has the obligation to support this type of tourism.
