Police officers and prosecutors conducted checkups Tuesday night at the offices of the eight cashiers and seized nearly EUR8,000 they allegedly received from drivers in exchange of lower bridge crossing tolls.
According to the local inspectorate in Giurgiu, police officers and prosecutors with the Prosecutors’ Office of Giurgiu Court found nearly EUR8,000 stashed in several boxes.
Judicial sources said the cashiers probably requested money from drivers traveling on the Romania- Bulgaria route in exchange for lower road tolls on crossing the bridge linking Giurgiu in Romania to Ruse in Bulgaria.
Prosecutors will ask Giurgiu court judges on Wednesday to place the eight employees under preventive arrest.
