“DNA prosecutors are investigating Adrian Nastase in two cases, following decision no. 8 of the Chamber of Deputies, of March 4, 2009, which requests ‘the criminal investigation of deputy Adrian Nastase, former Prime Minister of Romania, for facts included in files no. 68/P/2008 and 227/P/2006 of the National Anticorruption Department’,” the DNA told MEDIAFAX.

The cited source said the decision was taken following a notice of Romania’s general prosecutor, Codruta Kovesi, in accordance with article 109 paragraph 2 of the Romanian Constitution and articles 12 and 19 of Law 115/1999 regarding ministry liability, republished and observing Decision no. 270 of the Constitutional Court, of March 10, 2008.

The two cases’ charges were made known to Nastase on May 21 and 26, respectively.

Nastase arrived Tuesday at 8.45 a.m. at the DNA headquarters, where he stayed for about an hour.
